Sharing the experience

When I hear people refer to me as a professional photographer I am quite baffled. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that in such a short time period, I can actually be considered to be a professional. I am not a professional in anything. Most days I am not sure how I am surviving in this photography world. One day the shoot is awesome and I am confident, and the next day I feel like just giving up. We all have those days. I know I do as a mom-feeling like I got it together today. I showered, put on makeup, had a good hair day, love my outfit and the boys are well behaved. And then the next day-total and complete chaos. You can’t win everyday, but you can learn in the process. You also rely on a strong support system to help you learn and grow. I know that I could not function with the support of my husband, family, friends, and everyone in between.

In my real job (as I call it) teaching high school math, there is one person that has been my rock,  my listening ear, my support. I cannot put into words how much she has pushed me to become a better teacher, but I know that my teaching experience would not be the same without her. So what does any of this have to do with photography? Well the fabulous Ms. Liz’s mom is my teacher mentor. And when I found out that Liz wanted to get started in photography I knew that I would help her in any way possible.

I am by no means a professional photographer or mentor, but what I am is a teacher. Naturally by trade I love to teach. I love being able to watch some grow and mature and am amazed at others’ accomplishments. I know I do not know everything about photography and I don’t claim to, but I know that Liz and I have had some absolutely wonderful experiences together (and wild hair days!) that have helped both of us foster our love of this crazy world and our creative spirit. So thank you Liz for joining me and trusting me to share my knowledge and passion. I look forward to shooting with you this wedding season and watching you and your business grow. You have an infectious laugh and personality and always shines through and the biggest heart.
