Hooray, it’s time for your engagement session! It’s going to be a blast and will help to get you warmed up for being in front of the camera on your wedding day. One of the questions I’m always asked is: “Carrie, what should we wear?” I’ve got you covered! Read along for some helpful tips and examples on selecting what to wear for your engagement session.
When choosing your outfits, envision the photos displayed in your home and consider wearing colors that will compliment the decorations of you house.
Coordinating with your wedding theme or colors is always a nice touch and will tie in with your save-the-dates and would make a fabulous guest book! Your engagement session is also a good opportunity to break in your new pair of wedding shoes.
Texture in clothing is great, such as lace, embroidery, ruffles, or pleats, etc. It adds so much dimension. Patterns are good used when sparingly; it’s best if one of you wears a pattern and the other wears a solid color.
Bring a second outfit to switch it up! One outfit could be on the formal side and the other on the causal side. Your first outfit could be a dress or skirt and your second one could be pants or shorts and this will enable us to do more variety in poses.
Depending on your session location, some walking may be involved, so if you’re planning on wearing heels, I recommend wearing comfy shoes to start off with then changing your shoes once we arrive at the photo spot. This is a time beauty doesn’t have to be pain!
Keep the location in mind and what will fit with the environment. Beach? A long flowy dress and khakis and a button up or polo. City? A cocktail dress and suit. You get the picture! ;)
Wear what you feel best and comfortable in. You don’t want to be fidgeting throughout your session trying to adjust something that doesn’t feel right. You want these photos to be an accurate and authentic reflection of the two of you. Do you have a favorite pair of jeans that you absolutely rock? By all means, wear them!
Layer it up and don’t forget to accessorize! Vest, sweaters, and scarves are all fantastic options to add extra colors, patterns, and textures besides helping to keep you warm. Wearing a special necklace or pair of earrings that has a meaningful story behind it? Don’t hesitate to let me know, and I’ll be sure to take a shot that will focus on such an important detail.
